We upgraded the UUA_Staffer plugin to version 2.1 and then found out that it doesn’t work the same way. It still displays the nice bio preview, but clicking on “more” fails — takes user back to the home page.
You can see the problem by clicking on one of the people on this page: http://uusalem.org/learning/
http://uuatheme.org/question/staffer-plugin-v2-update-be-aware-of-changes-before-updating/ has information about this, too.
This is an excellent article. I wish I’d seen it before we upgraded. The link to git hub has only source code, which doesn’t help me. I need the old binaries.
Margy, in this case, since plugins are written in PHP, the binaries and source code are the same. So if you download and open up the file at the source code link from git hub, you’ll see a directory called “staffer-1.3.3”. If you rename that directory to “staffer”, you should be able to replace the “staffer” folder in your wp-content/plugins directory on your site. Note I haven’t actually tried this, and you should back up your site first to be safe.
The maintainer of the plugin does not seem to be responsive about fixing this, so it would be convenient if the UUA WordPress Theme switched to a different plugin for listing staff.
A note for Sharon not for Margy.
Version 1.1.3 of the theme fixes the issue with the sidebar not showing on pages that use the [ staffer ] shortcode. I realize that that’s not what you are reporting here but I thought you’d want to know.
The previous version of the Staffer plugin (v2.0.2) is downloadable from https://github.com/edwardr/staffer/releases/tag/2.0.2.
For what it’s worth– I submitted a pull request back in December to the author of the Staffer plugin to fix some of these issues.
Perhaps if more people thumbs up my PR on GitHub – it will motive the author to incorporate my fixes into his plugin. In the meantime, you’re welcome to download and use my forked version of the Staffer plugin from GitHub.
