Some of the images included in the theme are not optimized, and thus visitors to the site will incur additional costs when accessing the site.
We are using this site, provided by google to analyze our site: https://developers.google.com/speed/
The two images that should be compressed are:

  • wp-content/themes/uua-congregation/assets/img/welcoming-congregation.png – 190 KB
  • wp-content/themes/uua-congregation/assets/img/GreenSanctuaryLogo.png – 30 KB

According to the analysis these two images could be compressed 90-95%.

Note – this is primarily an issue for mobile users.

I was able to replace these images with compressed ones, however I would highly recommend this issue be fixed in the next update to the theme.

I’ll put in on our list. We’d probably want optimize them for 2x the biggest size they’re intended to be used at (because retina displays show twice as many pixels as the image is sized at). I’m not sure they’d be much smaller than they are now. Optimization is really important for files that are larger, and not so important for files that are only 190 KB, IMHO.
